The Things You Should Teach Yourself When It Comes To Eczema

The itchy, inflamed, red eczema-ridden skin can make life horrible if it’s not properly treated. Don’t sit around and suffer when there are actions you can take to prevent a new flare-up. Keep reading and you will learn much about your condition.

Do not take a hot shower if you are dealing with eczema. Your daily showers should be warm and short. Use gentle soaps that aren’t too harsh on the skin, and stay away from rubbing the skin too much. Once your skin is clean, pat it gently to dry it.

When you consider the problem of eczema, most likely you do not think about the type of clothing to wear. However, your choice of clothing can impact your eczema in rather substantial ways. Wear clothing that is loose fitting and made of breathable fabrics. Steer clear of rough fabric such as wool. Wash clothes in mild detergent and rinse them twice before wearing them.

Hot showers can aggravate eczema. Instead, take lukewarm showers. Avoid harsh soaps and choose a gentle cleanser, using care to avoid rubbing your skin hard. Wipe the excess moisture from your skin when you are done.

Make sure your clothing does not irritate your skin. Many fabrics, particularly synthetics ones, are notorious for causing flareups. If you are an eczema sufferer, cotton should be your first choice. You should also wash any new clothing before wearing it. You want to use a detergent that is mild and with no scent, and be sure that no fabric softener is used.

Make sure your home is always at a comfortable temperature. The colder and hotter extremes can result in flare up and further irritation. Invest in a good air conditioner and keep your furnace in tip top shape, plus add a humidifier to it. A humidifier will add moisture into the air.

Eczema can make a person have itchy and dry skin. It is essential that you apply moisturizers to help prevent the dryness and itching. Contrary to what most people believe, moisturizers don’t help hydrate the skin. The reality is that they help keep the body’s natural moisture in when they are applied regularly. When that happens, this helps to prevent the skin from becoming dry and cracked.

When searching around for a remedy to help with eczema, choose a moisturizer that is either an ointment or cream. These are better than lotions. Even petroleum jelly can help moisten and soften your skin. No matter what you use, it should be free of alcohol and fragrance. Apply moisturizer twice each day at least.

Relieve some of the itching caused by eczema by sitting in a warm bath. Make sure that the water is lukewarm. You may experience some relief using baking soda or even oatmeal at bath time. You can also add a little bleach since this can eliminate bacteria.

Watch your body and figure out what triggers your eczema. Various items such as fabrics, soaps and detergents can cause flare-ups. Maybe you always have an outbreak after you sweat too much. Once you know what can set off your eczema, try to avoid those items or situations.

Notice what you wear. The clothing on your skin can cause flare ups. You want to wear cotton or cotton blend clothing. Wool is a fabric that you want to avoid. Similarly, you need to pay attention to how you wash your clothes. Use gentle laundry detergents, and stay away from fabric softeners.

When you pick a sunscreen, try finding one that is PABA-free. Eczema sufferers will find this ingredient can cause flare ups. You should also carefully read the ingredient list even though the sunscreen says it is PABA-free. If you are unable to find something that works for you, talk to your doctor about a prescription sunscreen.

Now you should know more about eczema. You no longer have to suffer from this unpleasant condition. Speak with your family physician before starting any treatments, of course.
