Moisturizers that are ointments or creams are the best way for you to fight eczema. Both of these are better than using a lotion. Even petroleum jelly is effective for relief. Whatever you’re going to use, just be sure you get it alcohol free and fragrance free. Apply moisturizer twice each day at least.

Don’t scratch! Eczema can be very itchy and uncomfortable. However, the more you scratch, the more you will have to scratch. Scratching can damage the skin and lead to an infection. Use moisturizer often and apply cold compresses to relieve flare-ups.

Don’t take too many hot showers if you have sensitive skin. Your daily shower should be short and warm. Avoid using soap, rather use a gentle type of cleanser and avoid rubbing your skin while using it. Once your skin is clean, gently pat to dry it.

Try to reduce the stress in your life. Stress leads to flare ups. If you feel stressed, try to relax. You may be able to make your flare up not even occur.

Moisturize your skin as often as possible. In terms of managing eczema, moisturizers can be terrific allies. Use them following your shower or bath. Also, avoid moisturizers that contain fragrance and other chemicals that can irritate the skin. These can cause irritation on your skin. Thick creams and ointments work best

Keep nails trimmed and clean. Even if you are already aware that scratching is bad, you may still find yourself scratching in your sleep. This can create a rash, and if you have longer nails, it could make the issue worse. Also make sure your nails are always clean underneath.

Try to reduce the stress in your life. Stress is known to lead to eczema flare-ups. If you’re under some stress, try relieving via exercise, meditation, and other relaxing activities. You may be able to make your flare up not even occur.

When deciding on which moisturizer to use, choose an ointment. Ointments provide superior treatment for eczema as they help lock in the moisture by applying a protective layer. Creams and lotions don’t do this. Ointments are much more helpful when dealing with cracked skin.

Learn to identify the triggers for your eczema. It may be the detergent, fragrance or soap you use, or it may be some of the fabrics you wear. Other possibilities are sweat and stress. When you pinpoint what your triggers are, make sure that you avoid these things as much as possible.

While your skin is still damp, use the moisturizer in the area on which the eczema appears. Generally, the first three minutes after showering are the best. Blot your skin using a towel to retain natural oils and help the skin remain moist. Then put the moisturizer on. Try to do this all within at least three minutes after your bath to keep skin hydrated and smooth.

Choose a sunscreen that is labeled as PABA-free. PABA can cause problems for people with eczema. Even if your sunscreen is completely PABA-free, you should still read through the ingredients. If you can’t find a PABA-free sunscreen that you like, then speak to your doctor about the options you have available.

Use a humidifier in your room. These appliances help by releasing steam to moisturize the air. The steam carries water of course, thus moisturizing the air. That way, your skin can stay comfortable and smooth regardless of the weather. Be sure to keep the humidifier clean so that you do not wind up with other health problems.
