Living With Eczema – Tips To Help You Cope

Anyone that deals with troublesome skin can tell you how it hurts their self-confidence. Is this what you deal with a lot? If so, check out the tips below to find advice on how to achieve relief.

If you are afflicted with eczema, do not use hot water when showering. Each shower should be quick and the water lukewarm. Try using gentle cleanser instead of soap. Also, try gently washing the skin instead of rubbing it. Pat dry your skin when you are done.

Moisturizers that are ointments or creams are the best way for you to fight eczema. These are superior to lotions. You may even just want to use petroleum jelly as a moisturizer. No matter what you use, it should be free of alcohol and fragrance. Apply moisturizer to your skin twice every day.

Eczema sufferers may not realize how important their choice of fabric can be. However, your comfort will be determined by the clothing that you wear. Wear cotton clothing that fits you loosely. Try not to expose your skin to wool or other coarse materials. Also, wash all new clothing items in a detergent that doesn’t bother your skin.

You may not have put eczema and clothing into the same thoughts when you think about your skin. But in truth, it can make a big difference. Wear clothing that is loose fitting and made of breathable fabrics. Try not to expose your skin to wool or other coarse materials. Also, wash all new clothing items in a detergent that doesn’t bother your skin.

If you are an eczema sufferer, try to eliminate the stress in your life. Stress can trigger eczema symptoms. There are techniques and strategies to reduce stress, and exercise can also help. You may be able to minimize your eczema flare up.

You don’t want to put on clothing that can be irritating to your skin. Synthetic fabrics can cause flare-ups. If you suffer from eczema, cottons are the healthiest fabrics. You should always thoroughly wash any new clothes before you actually wear them. Do this with an unscented, mild liquid detergent.

Keep scratching to a minimum. Of course, eczema can make you uncomfortable and cause this to happen. However, scratching will only make you need to scratch more often. This can harm your skin and possibly cause an infection. Moisturize as often as possible and use a cold compress which can relieve symptoms.

Maintain the temperature in your home. Varying temperatures outside of normal ranges can actually cause your eczema symptoms to worsen. Use the air conditioner when it is hot outside, and use a humidifier when it’s cold outside. Humidifiers prevent excessive drying of the skin.

Use ointments instead of lotions. These are usually better for this type of skin condition due to the moisture being sealed which forms a protective layer. Lotions and other creams you might be using aren’t going to provide this soothing relief. Because of this an ointment will be a lot better on cracked skin that happened due to eczema.

A warm bath may give you some relief from itching skin. Make sure the water isn’t too hot or cold. You may experience some relief using baking soda or even oatmeal at bath time. You could also add a small cap of bleach to a large bath, which will help kill any living bacteria.

When you’re picking out a sunscreen you should get something that says it’s PABA-free. This ingredient can cause issues for people that have eczema. Make sure you carefully read your ingredient list, even with PABA-free sunscreen. If nothing else works, you should speak to your physician about prescription sunscreen.

There are often triggers that cause eczema, and you need to figure out what they are. Your eczema could be triggered by detergent, soap or even perfume that you may wear. Other things that can cause eczema to flare include stress and sweating. When you know what triggers it, you can control your outbreaks.

Now you can fight your eczema problems and win. If one thing doesn’t work, try using another one. With the right advice, eczema can be much easier to manage. Use what you have just learned and keep fighting the battle.
