To help soothe dry, itchy skin that comes from eczema, opt for moisturizers in ointment or cream forms. Both of these are better than using a lotion. A tub of petroleum jelly can also be extremely helpful. Whatever moisturizer you choose, make sure it does not include any alcohol or fragrance in the ingredients. Work on using moisturizer no less than twice daily.

You may not link clothing and eczema when you think about the subject. However, your comfort will be determined by the clothing that you wear. Cotton fabrics that are loose fitting are the type of clothes you should wear. Don’t wear materials that are coarse like wool against your skin. Wash new clothing in a gentle detergent, and rinse them well before wearing it.

Keep your home temperature as comfy as you can. Extreme temps are irritating and can trigger outbreaks. If it is hot, then keep it cool with an AC. If it is cold enough outside, then use a humidifier inside. The humidifier will keep your skin moist without drying it out like a heater would.

Trim your nails short, and keep them clean. You know during the day to avoid scratching your eczema, but you might do it anyway when you sleep. This may make a rash worse, and if your nails are long it will make the problem worse. Also, clean your nails each and every day.

Cream and moisturizes will help hydrate the skin and reduce the effects of eczema felt on the skin. They tend to be more effective than lotion-based products. You may even just want to use petroleum jelly as a moisturizer. Whatever you choose, be sure that it is free of alcohol and fragrance. Try to moisturize at least two times each day.

If you have a choice of moisturizers, then choose the ointments. They are typically better than lotions and such because they lock moisture into the skin. Creams or lotions can fail to do this. That is why ointments are your best choice when you are dealing with damage from eczema.

Relieve some of the itching caused by eczema by sitting in a warm bath. The water should be warm, not too hot or cold. Add some colloidal oatmeal or baking soda to your water for soothing the skin. Also, you can add bleach to get rid of bacteria.

Learn to identify the triggers for your eczema. It may be the detergent, fragrance or soap you use, or it may be some of the fabrics you wear. Excess sweat as well as stressful situations can also be triggers. When you pinpoint what your triggers are, make sure that you avoid these things as much as possible.

When you consider the problem of eczema, most likely you do not think about the type of clothing to wear. Wearing comfortable, soft clothes that won’t aggravate the skin is important. Wear clothing that is loose fitting and made of breathable fabrics. Try not to expose your skin to wool or other coarse materials. Wash all clothing when you buy it new prior to wearing it using a very mild detergent, and rise them two times prior to the first wear.
